Two of my entries this year have been Highly Commended in the British Wildlife Photography Awards in the Animal Portraits and the Animal Behaviour Categories. In the Animal Portraits, my image was of a hermit crab, Pagurus bernhardus sitting atop a dead man’s finger coral, Alcyonium digitatum. I took the image in Loch Carron, Scotland and the crab was most obliging to stay still whilst I took several shots, carefully trying to get the lighting just right.

The second shot in the Animal Behaviour Category was of a swarm (or smack if you like) of moon jellies, Aurelia aurita, taken the same week as the hermit crab but this time in Loch Duich. The dive has to rate among one of my best UK dives – floating around amongst thousands and thousands of pulsating jellies in bottle green waters was surreal, relaxing and like stepping back in time.
